Program Coordinator

Job Description

This position is offered through Mile High Behavioral Healthcare’s gay men’s wellness organization The Denver ELEMENT, a community-based program for gay and bisexual men in Metro Denver.  Our mission is to help build a stronger, more empowered gay community, reduce the transmission of HIV, and educate others on HIV stigma, sexual risk factors, and increasing positive social interactions.  We are seeking a creative and energetic individual who is passionate about working with Denver’s gay male community.  A background in counseling, mental health social work, community engagement, HIV education, or other significant related work experience is preferred. 

This is a full-time, salaried position with a competitive benefits package including health, dental, retirement, and paid time off.  It may include occasional evening and weekend work-related events.  As part of a multi-disciplinary team, duties for this position will include facilitation of educational groups, program marketing, participant recruitment, outreach activities, risk-reduction counseling, management of volunteer outreach teams, community-focused events, social media and technology engagement, data gathering and reporting, and urinalysis monitoring.  This is a non-clinical position, but preference will be given to those with experience in leadership, management, or program development.  Minority, HIV-positive, gay/bisexual or behavioral health licensed (LPC, MSW, LCSW, CAC) individuals are encouraged to apply.  

Desired Qualities

Qualified applicants will possess, excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong group facilitation experience with delivering interventions about sexual health or drug-related issues, program marketing and outreach, participant recruitment, event promotion, volunteer management, coordination and supervision of community outreach events, and social media engagement.

As part of a larger team, applicants will work collaboratively to develop a comprehensive gay men’s wellness program that meets grant-related requirements while offering additional services and programming.  They will be integral in assisting with the creation of marketing materials, monthly goal reporting, volunteer coordination, and building new relationships with community members, partner agencies, and other local businesses to promote our organizational mission. 

Group facilitation will be a primary function and will require the applicant to follow structured curriculums while managing group dynamics, building cohesion, and creating a positive and empowering environment for participants.  Support and educational groups will focus on empowering group members to build skills in communication/negotiation, status disclosure, sexual risk conversations, and building social networks.  Outreach activities will include being a member of a team providing safer sex and risk-reduction conversations while recruiting for program participation.   

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, other related fields, or comparable work-related experience.   

·         Experience in working with gay men and knowledge of issues relating to HIV, sexual health, and gay men’s wellness.

·         Proven skills with group facilitation, program management, community engagement, effective communication and time management.

·         Knowledge of windows-based Microsoft applications and social networking applications, sites, and methods.
